Legacy

What I leave behind for next years students...is both what NOT to do and what you should try your very best TO do.

First, don't take this class for granted. This class can only benefit you if you apply yourself. Second, apply yourself. This isn't just another boring class with a teacher lecturing all period.

This is YOUR life.

iQuest can lead you to possible career paths and opportunities that can potentially change your life. I have learned so much about myself through iQuest and i'm so glad that I had the opportunity to take this class!

Thank you to Mrs. Sekera, my parents, Vince, and class mates! Its been a great year!

This Friday I'm going on a ride-along with a police officer in Hayward. Hopefully it will be a cool experience and I hope to see more action there then in Danville especially since it will be at night..

Update

In the last couple weeks I haven't gotten much done for iQuest other than making phone calls to officers
from Danville PD and and San Ramon. I also talked to a retired officer whose son works for Hayward PD. I left him a few voicemails and still have no response. I'm going to meet with Vince this week and i'm going to try to speak to someone at the San Ramon Department about the explorers program because i'm still not sure if law enforcement is the right path for me.

Likes & Dislikes

Last week we talked about our likes and dislikes of ourselves and I guess we have to blog about it..
One of my likes is that i'm chill and easy going. When life is hectic or in any situation, I usually find a way to just relax and chill out.
One of my dislikes is my problem with procrastination. I've really noticed this in the past three years of high school and its something that I've been working on especially before going to college.

First Semester

So far iQuest has been a good experience for me. Even though I met with my mentor only a few times, Iv'e learned a lot about law enforcement through my own individual research, through the book I read about police officers, and talking to various officers and others about the field and what it takes to be in it as a career choice. I'm excited for this second semester of iQuest because hopefully I can get involved with the explorers program at the SRPD and go on more frequent ride-alongs with the DPD.

iQuest Book

"Policing Urban America," by Geoffrey P. Alpert and Roger G. Dunham, is a novel explaining the many facets of police work including controversial issues that arise in the job as well as providing a new understanding of police work. The authors go into the wide variety of jobs and careers available in the field of policing as well. The book opens up with the authors stressing the presence of the community based philosophy and later in the book the focus is directed toward styles of policing and the police organization. the book does address important issues with policing like police brutality and the use of force, but it dives deeper into giving the reader a more rounded understanding of police work in general from the day to day job to police socialization. My favorite part of the book was the very last chapter. the authors delved into the may types of law enforcement careers that are possible in America today such as urban police, rural law enforcement, state police, and jobs in the federal law enforcement agencies. This chapter is my favorite because of how it relates to iQuest and my goal for this year. This chapter explored the different careers in law enforcement and helped me to understand the various careers involved and how diverse policing can be if you persist and continue to pursue more schooling. Although the book is long and at times a little boring with statistics and numbers, I would recommend this book to someone who wants to explore the possibility of a career in law enforcement. I learned a lot of valuable information from this novel and it motivated me to keep expanding my knowledge of law enforcement to find out if this is really what I want to pursue in college and as a career.

Iv'e been trying to get involved with the Explorers program at the SRPD but have had no luck whatsoever. This week I plan to sign up for the ride-along program at the Danville police Department and meet with Vince for the first time in a while.
